100% agree with the horror being better than haunting of hill house.
There were some weak/drawn out parts but the last episode was done well I thought, and I’m still feeling uneasy which is always a sign of successful horror.
“Marianne” has perfected the type of scare that draws itself out, making you squirm uncomfortably because it feels like it’s never going to end. ... Marianne scared the shit out of me. But if you’re not into horror – or like visiting your grandma on a Sunday afternoon sans gripping sense of dread – then steer clear.
I don't know at what time they get there but I feel that it is later than dusk. I wanted to like it more but just found it alright. Maybe that's the way horror shows are made in France, maybe that was the purpose of the series since the beggining, but I'm so frustrated with what we have. There were some things I hated (The silly scary faces, the pages flipping and some bad acting from some actors) but I absolute loved the inside lore (The fact that the witch could lie about all things except her name and how depending on how much time they were possessed they walked down the road to the village a.k.a. “Great cast, do yourself a favour and watch it in its original French.”. It happens, you jump and scream, then you can relax because it’s over and you’re safe, even if momentarily.

I'm only on episode 4 right now so I can't speak for the whole series but sure, the show can have its weird moments at times but I'm really loving it overall. Marianne is disturbing from the very first scene, and it only gets more frightening as the series progresses. I must have missed that, HH was garbage honestly lost credibility in your post for saying that. The jump scares are far from as common as they imply.
Personally, I enjoyed this most of the time. Many frightening scenes of dead people, unsettling images of people and jump-scares. 5 questions Marianne Season 2 needs to answer.
The jump scares were minimal in comparison to the slow stuff. To quickly recap, Emma (Victorie Du Bois) is a young and wealthy novelist who has been writing about the battles between Lizzie Larck and Marianne, the latter being an evil witch. Emma and her friends called out to Marianne on accident when they were kids, not knowing the danger they would be getting into.
If you want to terrify the pants of a horror buff, put their grandma in a movie.

The gradual slices and slow progress towards de-limbing look more realistic, as if this is what it would actually look like if the old biddy down the road took a domestic utensil to themselves while you were round for tea.
