The language and construction of the sentences are a bit more formal and declarative than works one would more commonly read today, but it wasn't difficult to understand or comprehend.
These kind of assumptions make a lot of his observations nearly useless, revealing more about the author than the sub.

I have compared this edition with Cliff (Penguin), Latham (Penguin), Marsden and Yule translations and am able to say this edition is the best one (by now) for it is the most complete print and translation is scholarly accurate.
The wealth of new geographic information recorded by Polo was widely used by European navigators. The book describes the East in the 1500’s and is an accurate account of what Marco Polo. Not without interest, but too repetitive to sustain my own. Soon though, the thought of stepping into all these different cultures in the 13th century really fascinated me. Very well set out and easy to read, the language is well put and the descriptions of people and places visited are excellent. I'm glad I read it, but I wish I had read a different translation.
I was expecting a little more narrative than just "I went here, the people were like this, then I went to the next place," but it was still fascinating to read his adventures.

September 20, 2016 In it he describes all of the strange cities and peoples he comes across in his years wandering through the exotic locales encompassed by the Khan’s extensive empire. The TV series Genghis Khan led me to read this book and I am pleased that I did. Fact 9: The Polo’s headed back to Venice in 1293 and Kublai Khan died just a year after their departure.
I would probably have gotten through the book much more quickly without those things.
